Chapter 10

Luda, Jaycee and I were able to make it over to see their dad without being followed. We had a car in front and in back of us to ensure our safety. I was beginning to see the other side of both of them and I had nothing but the utmost respect.

“Hey pops,” Jaycee greeted as we arrived at the nursing home and stepped into his fathers’ room.

Jaycee walked over to the bed, bent down and gave his father a hug. His dad smiled.

“Hey son,” he replied before looking over to see me and Luda.

“I know that aint my baby girl that came to see me?” He asked with much emotion. “It’s been four years! I can’t get no love?”

Without hesitating, Luda rushed to her dad, threw herself on him and began crying. She apologized for not coming to visit on a regular. He hushed her and told her that it was better late than never.

Jaycee and Luda’s father was Native American and Black. He was elderly, but seemed to have much spunk left in him. I could tell he was a ‘looker’ back in the day and his son favored him a great deal. Luda’s skin was a light brown tone like his, while Jaycee’s was dark like their mothers’.

“So, what brings you guys here?” Their father questioned as he picked up the control and adjusted his bed in order to sit upright. “I see you brought a guest. Who’s this beautiful young lady? Don’t tell me you don’ gone and got married Jaycee. I remember you said you would never ever do that son.”

Luda and I burst out in laughter as Jaycee gave us a dirty look.

“Oh, y’all over there gigglin’ now, but I bet I hush both of you up!” he snapped with a sneaky look.

“Calm down son. I see ya have a little thang for this hot sexy Latina chick over her huh?” His father teased.

Jaycee played it off and told his father the real reason he came. When he mentioned Kane’s name, it pulled a reaction out of him.

“Dude from Red Springs?”

“Yeah Dad, you know him?”

“That fool is bad news times ten! How on God’s green earth did you guys manage to get on his bad side? You know he got locked up for killing some woman out there, but I heard he’s out now.”

“Yeah, that fool is my father and that was my mother he killed,” I confessed as I became emotional.

Jaycee and Luda’s father continued on to tell us everything he knew about his crew. They were known as the ‘Loyal Latino’s’. Kane ran the gang before he got locked up, from behind bars and now on the streets once again.

After giving his dad the details on the recent events, Jaycee went on to ask for his advice and possibly his help.

“Look son, you and Luda are already involved, trust me. You know your job and I expect you to die tryin’,” he replied as he reached under his pillow and retrieved a cell phone.
